Hi!
I am Jens.
Senior Game Designer
Welcome to my page.
Gamer
My first computer with games sat on my desk back in 1989 – and video games have fascinated me ever since. Even as a child, I was captivated by them. Early on, I began not only playing but also analyzing game mechanics and creating my own modifications.
In 1995, while still in school, I had the opportunity to do an internship at a game development studio. Looking back, this was the first step toward my future career in the video game industry.
My passion for video games has never left me – games have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
In 2007, I began studying Game Design at the MediaDesign University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf.
I completed my Bachelor of Science in Game Design in 2010.
My thesis:
“The Emergence and Enhancement of Dramaturgic Elements Through Level Design Concepts”
I'm always eager to expand my knowledge and learn new things.
In 2024, I decided to pursue further education in UX Management – a program I successfully completed.
I’m open to new professional opportunities in the field of Game Design.
Please feel free to contact me for further information or to arrange a personal conversation.

My experiences
My extensive experience in game development, combined with my deep understanding of games, player motivation, and game mechanics, makes me an ideal addition to your team. I have been involved in multiple prototypes and vertical slices that successfully secured funding through game grants. Some games I have supported from initial concept all the way through release and beyond.
Multiplatform development and project management are well within my expertise, and intuitive gameplay design is very important to me. I bring several years of experience with Unity and Cocos2d-x, and I am familiar with various scripting languages that I use to craft engaging content and player challenges.
For many years, I was active in the modding scene, passionately creating levels, campaigns, and maps for multiplayer games.
Areas of expertise
Level Design
Even as a child building with blocks and LEGO, I was already a level designer at heart. Creating believable and challenging game environments has always been a true passion of mine — spaces filled with meaningful gameplay and memorable player experiences.
Rapid Prototyping
Before ideas get stuck in endless theorizing, let’s just try them out!
Some things simply need to be tested firsthand before making a judgment or decision. Experience beats theory every time!
Gameplay First
Fun always comes first.
I love games and enjoy providing great entertainment. For me, delivering the best possible player experience through outstanding content is always the top priority—whether it’s gameplay, mission design, or level design.
I know the games industry and have experienced a lot
Game Designer
Game Designer since 2012
I started in rapid prototyping for new smartphone games – one new game every week. Shortly after, I joined the team behind Townsmen. Together, we developed one of HandyGames’ most successful in-house titles. Over the years, the game has been continuously supported and expanded, eventually leading to a remastered version for consoles and PC.
In addition to Townsmen, I’ve also contributed to several other projects across various platforms.
I’m currently employed on a permanent basis at HandyGames Studios GmbH.
Some things I am very proud of
GAMESCOM
Indie Arena Booth 2018
I had the opportunity to serve as one of the booth managers at the Indie Arena Booth during Gamescom 2018. I enjoy connecting with fans and business partners alike. Trade shows are a fantastic way to engage with your audience — and they’re just a lot of fun!
TALKS
Game Design Meetup at Setlog 2018
During interviews at Gamescom and later at a meetup hosted by Setlog GmbH, I had the pleasure of sharing insights about my life as a game designer. For one evening, I was at the center of attention — a truly rewarding experience!
GAME DESIGNER AND MORE
Mocap Experience and UX Manager
I’ve even worn a mocap suit and had the chance to bring our characters to life through my own performance!
I’m always seeking new experiences and constantly strive to expand my knowledge.
Since late 2024, I’ve been a certified User Experience Manager (IHK).
I tutored and mentored several junior Designers to become sucessful Game Designers
TRAVELER
GDC
In 2014, I had the opportunity to fly to San Francisco as part of the team attending GDC. It was an incredible experience and a valuable opportunity to attend expert talks and connect with renowned game designers like Peter Molyneux, Bob Bates, Chris Schmitz, and John Romero. And of course, the parties in the gaming industry are an experience all their own!
Townsmen
The medieval citybuilder I started to work on about 13 years ago is one of my most memorable connections of my gaming career. The fact that over 25 mio people downloaded the game and had uncountable hours of fun with it fills me with joy.
